Black walnut turned wood dish, wood turning home decor bowl
Black walnut turned dish 2.5" tall and 7" diam. My husband works in the studio on his lathe turning beautiful wood pieces. Starting with a large chunk of wood that has seasoned sometimes several years before it is suitable to turn, he centers the piece on the electric lathe. Using a series of gouges and scrapers, the shape is defined, detailed and sanded. Even the bottom has interesting detail. Sealed with laquer to bring out the grain and then signed on the bottom with the wood type and where it came from.
This dish was turned from a piece of black nut from a neighbor, Mr Weaver. The dark heart wood is surrounded by the lighter sap wood and is very dark in the bowl with lighter edges. The natural end grain shows up in the bowl. This is a shallow bowl shape. Can be used a candy dish(wrapped), loose change catcher or as a piece of rustic decor. Pretty in a cabin or mountain house.
