Pottery deviled egg plate, ceramic egg dish with matching bowl
This deviled egg dish was hand built by rolling out a slab of chocolate brown stoneware clay and pressing into a tray form I picked up at the thrift store. I stamped the surface with a homemade dogwood flower stamp before laying into the form. Each egg cup was pinched up to form the cup and 2 handles were stamped with a vine stamp and added. The edges are turned up slightly to keep the eggs from escaping! A small condiment or sauce bowl was made by draping clay over a small glass dish and a spiral coiled foot added to the bottom. Glazed in a glossy, opaque white with the brown of the clay speaking through the glaze. The bottom is partially unglazed. About 10" diam for the plate and 6" diam for the bowl.
Non toxic glaze is food safe and although dishwasher safe, I recommend hand washing for my larger pieces. This is such a pretty egg dish for deviled eggs and the bowl is perfect for pickles or sauces. We like to serve sweet jerkins with the deviled eggs. It makes a great display piece when not in use.
