Wood turned home decor pot with lid, dogwood turning
Dogwood turned vase with lid 6.5" tall and 3" diam. My husband works in the studio on his lathe turning beautiful wood pieces. Starting with a large chunk of wood that has seasoned sometimes several years before it is suitable to turn, he centers the piece on the electric lathe. Using a series of gouges and scrapers, the shape is defined, detailed and sanded. Even the bottom has interesting detail. Sealed with laquer to bring out the grain and then signed on the bottom with the wood type and where it came from.
This is a piece of dogwood cut on our property. We call our property Terra so this Terra Dogwood. We had several Dogwood trees that didn't survive a drought several years ago and when we cut them saved some of the wood. This tree also had insect damage resulting in the holes and grooves you see in the wood. The wood has an beautiful grain and color. Turned as one whole piece and then the lid was separated from the bottom.
