Wood turned oak bowl, wood turning home decor
Wood turned oak shallow bowl 5.5" diam and 2" tall. My husband works in the studio on his lathe turning beautiful wood pieces. Starting with a large chunk of wood that has seasoned sometimes several years before it is suitable to turn, he centers the piece on the electric lathe. Using a series of gouges and scrapers, the shape is defined, detailed and sanded. Even the bottom has interesting detail. Sealed with laquer to bring out the grain and then signed on the bottom with the wood type and where it came from.
This piece of oak wood is from our farm that was owned by Mr Hickman. He left many things on the property including large pieces of wood that were felled on the farm and boards run through a saw mill. This was a large piece of lumber saved from an out building. The natural grain shows up in the bowl. This is a shallow bowl shape. Can be used a candy dish(wrapped), loose change catcher or as a piece of rustic decor. Pretty in a cabin or mountain house.
